A knee-ankle-foot orthosis (KAFO) is a lower limb orthosis used for stability and control, covering the knee, ankle, and foot joints.
Structure: A typical KAFO consists of a thigh sleeve, a calf sleeve, a footplate (shoe or footrest), and metal or carbon fiber struts connecting and securing these parts, joints (knee hinges, ankle hinges), and straps (such as thigh straps, calf straps, pelvic straps, etc.).
Core Purpose: To restrict or assist lower limb joint movement, provide support, assist in weight-bearing, improve gait, and prevent or correct deformities.
